Beekeeping In-Hive Experience
If you are feeling adventurous, then get ready to enter the exciting world of the BEES! Enjoy a fun tour through a hive and see how a bee colony functions as a super-organism turning flowers into food! Our Beekeeping In-Hive Experiences are meant to be unusual, educational, and memorable. In-hives experiences last approximately 60-120 minutes depending on group size. Bee Experiences are available in July and August each year, weather permitting.
What is included:
- Safety is our #1 priority. A safety briefing will be conducted with all participants before entering a bee yard or beehive.
- You will receive an introduction to honeybees and beekeeping from one of our experienced beekeepers
- Suit up to get ‘up close and personal’ with our bees. In-hive experience include the opportunity to hold frames of live bees. We provide bee suits (Sizes: S-3XL) and gloves for your experience. Closed-toe shoes and pants are required to participate.
- We’ll spot the queen bee and point out all of the inner workings of the hive including the difference between worker and drone bees, honey, pollen, and more!
- Our beekeeper can take photos of you holding frames of bees to impress all your friends!
- An optional honey guided honey tasting after your in-hive experience is available at no additional cost. Honey tastings are always free and our honey store will be open to shop local honeys and much more.

Required Clothing Wear:
- Light colored clothing and full-length pants without holes; loose fit is best; tight fitting clothes e.g. skinny jeans are not recommended. The bee suits provided are jackets with hoods and do not include leg coverings.
- Sturdy, closed-toed shoes
- White or light color full-length socks
- Baseball hat (optional, helps keep bee suit off face)
Note: You will not be able to participate in the in-hive experience if you do not have full-length pants and close-toed shoes.
Do Not Wear:
- Perfumes/Cologne
- Dark/Fuzzy clothing
- High healed or Open toed shoes
Bring with you:
- Water bottle – Come hydrated and stay hydrated. It is hot inside a bee suit; expect to sweat a little
- Phone/Camera
- Change of shirt (optional) – to change into dry shirt after sweating
- Beekeeping questions!
Do Not Bring:
- Pets
- Tobacco/Vapes
- Alcohol
Private Tours:
Private In-Hive Experiences are great for couples, anniversaries, work groups, clubs, large families, and more. Private experiences can be scheduled by emailing us at info@flyingbeeranch.net for more information.
Disclaimer: Although some protective gear is provided, our In-Hive Experiences involve working with live honey bees which can sting you. Participation in our In-Hive Experiences is at your own risk. A signed disclaimer holding Flying Bee Ranch and its employees harmless is required to participate in the Beekeeping In-Hive Experience (available on site when you arrive). All minors (ages 6-18) are required to have a parent/guardian participate in the Beekeeping In-Hive Experience with their child. Our In-Hive Experiences are not appropriate for children under 6 years of age and are not allowed to participate at this time.
